Crisis Support – Alternatives and Resources
If you are in emotional distress, experiencing a mental health crisis, or supporting someone who is, this page offers crisis support options beyond calling 911.
Some individuals prefer alternatives that are trauma informed, LGBTQ+ affirming, or specifically trained in mental health response. Below you will find confidential hotlines, text lines, and Bay Area based resources available at various hours.
If you are in immediate danger, please call 911. Otherwise, these services may offer support, de-escalation, guidance, and connection to further care.

If You Need to Call 911
If calling 911 becomes necessary, it can help to have a support plan prepared in advance:
- Use disability advocating language when describing the situation.
- Clearly state any access needs or support needs.
- Reach out to your emergency contacts to assist you during the process.
- You may also contact the resources listed above and ask whether they can stay on the line or provide live joining assistance while emergency services are involved.
