Particularly high-performing professionals experience work stress, moral injury, and trauma, which can lead to extreme coping through eating disorders and/or substance use.
I have experience treating lawyers and doctors in particular who are struggling with these issues. Doctors and attorneys face high-stress work environments, stress, burnout, competition, and high professional expectations, shame for professionals, access to substances, unclear boundaries, trauma stewardship, high exposure to trauma, licensing concerns, and fears about the ability to continue in the profession.
My education and training in social work and the law make me adept at helping professionals in these areas. I have practical knowledge of the law, the legal system, and the legal work environment, combined with my extensive training and education in social work.
I have worked extensively with physicians struggling with substance use and eating disorders and understand the shame and stigma, as well as the secrecy and isolation that occur. I am able to work with your support system, as well as to help with your particular situation and requirements when it comes to privileges and the licensing board.
Please reach out, and we can discuss your particular needs in recovery as they relate to your professional career.
Additional Support Resources
I recognize that many professionals carry personal struggles alongside the work they do for others. For those who are seeking support, the following organizations offer confidential, community based resources for individuals in the healing professions.
International Doctors in AA (IDAA) provides a global fellowship for healthcare professionals and their families. The organization offers a supportive community for those working toward recovery from substance use challenges.
The Other Bar is a statewide network of lawyers, law students, and judges in recovery. It offers a confidential space for legal professionals seeking support with alcohol or substance use concerns.
